Optimal long-term performance of a variable valve timing (VVT) system requires a reliable and rugged cam phaser, also known as a timing sprocket. The factory phasers on certain Ford and Lincoln trucks and SUVs with a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine can fail prematurely from excessive internal wear. This Dorman OE FIX exhaust cam phaser features significant upgrades to the original equipment design to provide longer service life and better performance than the OEM replacement. A two-step locking pin and deeper receiving seat replace the factory sprocket's straight pin design, providing more secure engagement and stability during phaser actuations that eliminates the rattling sound typical of a malfunctioning sprocket. This cam phaser also has an innovative oil wiper designed with concave sealing edges, an upgrade from the factory's flat wiper profile. The unique surface geometry seals oil much more effectively, enabling faster actuations of the cam to advance and retard positions and extending wiper life by reducing surface wear. The durability of this upgraded cam phaser has been proven far beyond the limits of many aftermarket competitors' on-vehicle tests. Our custom-built VVT cam phaser testing apparatus simulates 50,000 miles of real-world driving in just four weeks, promising a highly-engineered and upgraded replacement part that offers a better and longer-lasting repair.
