A P2076 code on certain Chevrolet Cruze or Sonic models equipped with 1.8L ECOTEC engines often means the factory tuning arm disconnected from and disabled the intake manifold runner control (IMRC) valve assembly. No surprise, because it relies on a push-and-snap fit between two plastic parts in continuous motion. Plastic snaps work fine for static uses—say, shirt buttons—but not for this critical underhood assembly component. Over time and miles, the arm's weak plastic ball can wear to a nub, lose its connection to the assembly linkage, and can cause the IMRC motor to burn out. The dealer's repair solution is to have you purchase a costly new intake manifold that utilizes the same weak link in the IMRC tuning arm setup, inviting a similar failure down the road.
