Vehicles from BMW’s 35i model range with gasoline engines (BE) N54 or N55 were equipped with a pump and pump housing made from plastic at the start of serial production. Vibrations can cause the plastic housing on this series pump to fracture, which can lead to water leakage. In turn, this could result in an electrical short circuit in the electronic components. This series pump can be replaced with the coolant pump 7.07223.10.0 by Pierburg. The Pierburg coolant pump eliminates the issues of the original series pump, and thus increases reliability. The pump also successfully passed an endurance-based field test in which it proved that it can withstand hot climatic conditions for a long stretch of time. The housing is made from aluminium and designed to minimize noise, which makes for a more pleasant driving experience.
